The Chebagogo Foundation began with one woman’s vision, which springs from an amazing story of courage and compassion.
Nelly Some, CEO and founder, emigrated to the United States from a Kenyan village called Moi's Bridge. She was raised under the care of her elderly grandmother who was extremely poor. As such, Nelly experienced first-hand the hardship of Kenyan village life whole growing up. While she was not an AIDS orphan herself, Nelly’s personal struggle with poverty and family disunity inspired her to identify with parentless children who had no support at all to live or to go to school.
As an adult Nelly dedicated her life to the cause of supporting AIDS orphans in Kenya, with the belief that no child should be denied loving support, health, and education. For were it not for her grandmother (or “gogo” in Nandi, her native tongue), Nelly would have been orphaned herself.
In 2006, the Chebagogo Foundation was born.
The Chebagogo Foundation is a tax exempt non-profit organization under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code. The Foundation is run by a Board of individuals who, like Nelly, identify with and care deeply about the plight of orphaned children in Africa. These officers are dedicated and committed to creating programs that build sustainable solutions in concert with the goals and mission of the Foundation.
We wish to provide assistance to all types of AIDS orphans in Kenya regardless of their religious beliefs, gender or culture.
